Western Highlands police commander Superintendent Martin Lakari has warned the public not to attack police officers because they can be killed in line of defence under the Criminal Code Act.

The warning came after two dog unit police officers were brutally attacked by six students from the Hagen Park Secondary School.
The student suspects are all Grade Nine at Hagen Park Secondary School have been arrested and were being processed at Mt Hagen police station.

Supt Lakari warned the public that police would not hesitate to shoot and kill if they were attacked and their lives threatened.
“Police have the right to release fire under the Criminal Code Act in line of defence if circumstances allowed,” Mr Lakari explained.

Even the most stupid young native must surely understand that an armed policeman will not just stand & be attacked / beaten without defending himself, & being armed there is a reasonable chance they would use a firearm to dissuade criminals from continuing to menace the constable.

Lae Police to shoot to kill.

May 4, 2018 Post Courier

"Police in Lae will shoot and kill criminals who shoot back at police when pursued warned the Northern Region Police Commander.

Northern Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Peter Guinness announced today when confirming change of Provincial Police Commands in the region.
ACP Guinness confirmed that the new PPC for Morobe is Alex Ndrasal who has handed over his PPC post in the Eastern Highlands province to David Seine who moves down from Chimbu.

ACP Guinness gave the warning amid recent robberies in Madang that was foiled by reinforced police personal based in Madang in the aftermath of the Madang tension following the beheading of a primary school teacher.

ACP Guinness warned criminals that if they are being pursued by police then they must not shoot back at police as police will shoot and kill them (criminals)."

Here is a further development in the struggle for Law & Order.
Port Moresby had the reputation of extreme hazzard from so-called 'rascals', but it is being matched by Madang & Lae - with the highlands always likely to explode into violence over smaller incidents getting out of control.

Unemployment & underemployment was a main cause of mob violence some years ago, but other factors have enlarged the resentment by mobs of younger citizens who gather together to bolster their courage.

So sad.
